Bettiah, October 28, 2025 — The Diocese of Bettiah commenced its annual Eucharistic Procession at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral, renewing its long-standing tradition of publicly professing faith in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. The procession marks the beginning of diocesan observances that will continue in parishes through October, November and early December.
Priests, religious sisters, children, youth and lay faithful participated as the Blessed Sacrament was carried in solemn procession through the streets. The Rosary was prayed and Eucharistic hymns were sung while children and youth carried candles, incense, lanterns and flags, with flower petals strewn before the Eucharistic Lord. Catholic homes along the route were decorated with lights, flowers and images of Christ the King, offering a visible witness of faith to the wider public.
The procession was coordinated by parish priest Fr Henry Fernando with the support of clergy, parish council members and volunteers. Three decorated outdoor altars of repose were prepared for moments of adoration — by the MJ Sisters near the Cathedral, the MFC Youth at Mission Park and the HC Sisters at St. Teresa Girls’ School.
Fr Sanjay Marndi, SJ preached a homily on the kingship of Christ, emphasising that His reign is one of love, truth and self-giving in the Eucharist. Bishop Peter Sebastian Goveas imparted the final Eucharistic Benediction, encouraging the faithful to continue witnessing to Christ in their families and communities.
