Vatican, April 1, 2026: Pope Leo XIV has released his prayer intention for the month of April, calling on Catholics worldwide to pray for priests facing moments of crisis in their vocation, particularly those experiencing loneliness, doubt, and exhaustion.
In a message shared through Vatican Media and circulated by EWTN Vatican, the Holy Father invited the faithful to spiritually accompany priests who struggle under the weight of pastoral responsibilities and personal challenges.
The prayer highlights the emotional and spiritual burdens many priests endure, acknowledging periods “when loneliness weighs heavily, when doubt clouds their hearts, and when exhaustion seems stronger than hope.” Entrusting them to Christ, described as the “Good Shepherd and companion on the journey,” the Pope urged believers to intercede for renewed strength and assurance in God’s unconditional love.

The intention further emphasizes that priests are not merely “functionaries or lonely heroes,” but “beloved sons, humble and cherished disciples, and pastors sustained by the prayer of their people.” It calls on Christian communities to take an active role in supporting clergy—by listening without judgment, offering gratitude without demanding perfection, and walking alongside them in their mission of proclaiming the Gospel.
Addressing the faithful, the prayer encourages a shared responsibility in the Church’s mission, rooted in baptism, and underscores the importance of sincere prayer and closeness to those in ordained ministry. It also asks the Holy Spirit to rekindle in priests the joy of the Gospel, granting them strong friendships, fraternal support, and the grace to rediscover the beauty of their vocation.
Concluding with a call for perseverance, the Pope prayed that priests may never lose trust in God or the joy of serving the Church with humility and generosity.
The monthly prayer intention forms part of the Church’s ongoing effort to unite Catholics globally in prayer for pressing spiritual and pastoral concerns.
