A Display of Communal Harmony: Catholic Priest Participates in Hindu Temple Festivities in Udupi

Udupi, May 5, 2025 – Rev. Fr. Denis Dsa, parish priest of St. Ann’s Church, Thottam, participated in the Punarpratishthe (re-consecration) and Nemotsava celebrations of Sri Chikkamma Devi and the divine retinue at Badanidiyur, Udupi. The event, which took place on May 3, was hosted by the Thottam Timma Poojari family and attended by various local leaders and community members.


Fr. Denis joined the sacred rituals following a cordial invitation from the temple authorities. He participated with reverence and sincerity, extending his heartfelt wishes for the successful conduct of the re-consecration ceremony and accompanying festivities. His presence underscored a commitment to nurturing communal peace and mutual respect.


As a mark of honour and goodwill, the temple committee felicitated Fr. Denis with a ceremonial shawl. This symbolic gesture highlighted the deep respect and friendship between the Christian and Hindu communities in the region.


The celebrations also witnessed the attendance of prominent local personalities, including Ramesh, Umesh, and members of the Timma Poojari family. Church representatives present included Agnel Fernandes, Coordinator of the Interfaith Commission at Thottam Church; Vanitha Fernandes, head of the Church’s 20 Commissions; as well as Raymond Fernandes and Nicholas Fernandes.


The event served as a powerful testament to the spirit of coexistence and unity that defines Udupi’s diverse religious landscape.
