ALAPPUZHA, August 18, 2026: A 13-year-old girl allegedly arranged a “quotation” to have her elderly relative killed for six sovereigns of gold, in a chilling case that has shocked Karuvatta near Haripad in Alappuzha district.
Police said the girl allegedly enlisted three teenagers from Kollam to break into the house of her 67-year-old relative, Sivankutty, and steal the gold. Investigators suspect she had planned to use the proceeds to buy an iPhone, while the other teenagers allegedly wanted to purchase a motorcycle.
Sivankutty was alone at home when the three teenagers allegedly entered the house. They tied him up and strangled him during the robbery, police said.
In a disturbing twist, investigators said the teenagers allegedly made a video call to the 13-year-old while the crime was being carried out, allowing her to watch the killing remotely.
Police traced the four minors during the investigation and took them into custody. The girl is alleged to have played a key role in identifying the target and arranging the robbery.
The case is being handled under the Juvenile Justice Act as all four accused are below 18. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged plot and the recovery of the stolen gold.
The case has drawn attention to the increasingly disturbing nature of crimes involving minors, particularly the alleged use of a “quotation” arrangement to execute a murder for material gain.
