Bangalore, April 1, 2025 – An orientation programme for the Parish Pastoral Councils (PPCs) and Parish Finance Councils (PFCs) of the Cathedral Deanery of the Archdiocese of Bangalore was held last month at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Bangalore. Approximately 130 members from various parishes within the deanery participated in the event.
The session was led by the Auxiliary Bishop of Bangalore, Most Rev. Dr. Arockiaraj Sathis, with significant contributions from Fr. Amarnath, Dean of the Cathedral Deanery, and Fr. Alwyn. The programme aimed to equip council members with a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities, knowledge of best practices for council operations, and guidelines to enhance their effectiveness in parish governance.
In his address, Bishop Sathis emphasised that the PPCs and PFCs exist to serve the people, rather than merely function as administrative bodies. He provided in-depth insights into the formation of these councils, the responsibilities of their members, and the importance of collaboration in parish leadership. He also stressed the necessity of working as a unified body to support the cathedral parish priest and fellow council members in ensuring smooth administration and pastoral care.
Additionally, Bishop Sathis introduced the newly revised 2025 handbook for PPC and PFC members. This handbook outlines essential guidelines, regulations, and eligibility criteria for members of these councils.
Fr. Amarnath, the Dean of the Cathedral Deanery, played a crucial role in organising the event and ensured a structured and engaging session. A special note of appreciation was extended to Fr. Arockiasamy, rector and parish priest of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, for hosting the orientation programme.
The event provided a platform for meaningful discussions, reinforcing the commitment of PPC and PFC members to their service and strengthening the foundation of parish governance.
