Thiruvananthapuram, October 10, 2024: Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys, will be honoured with the 2024 Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios Award, presented by AMICOS, the Alumni Association of Mar Ivanios College Old Students. The award was announced by Cardinal Baselios Cleemis on October 9.
This prestigious award, named after the first principal of the college and former Archbishop of Thiruvananthapuram recognizes Gopalakrishnan's significant contributions to creating employment opportunities for thousands of youths in India amid challenging economic circumstances.
Senapathy “Kris” Gopalakrishnan is an influential Indian businessman and the chairman of Axilor Ventures, a startup accelerator. He is one of the co-founders of Infosys and served as CEO and managing director from 2007 to 2011, then as vice chairman until 2014. In January 2011, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honour, for his contributions to the nation.
The Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios Award includes a cash prize of ₹1 lakh and a citation. The selection was made by a distinguished jury chaired by former Indian Ambassador T.P. Srinivasan, alongside former Chief Secretary Dr. K. Jayakumar and John Matthai. Cardinal Cleemis commended Gopalakrishnan’s efforts in addressing the pressing issue of youth employment in the country, where many are seeking opportunities abroad.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place later in Thiruvananthapuram.
