Bince George, a DevOps Engineer from Bangalore, has seamlessly blended his successful career with a deep commitment to faith-based ministries. Hailing from Kottayam, Kerala, Bince’s journey is marked by spiritual growth, academic achievements and a passion for serving others, especially through his impactful initiatives, Project Lily and Catholic Reads, which have inspired countless young lives.
Early Beginnings with Jesus Youth
Bince’s journey with Jesus Youth began in 2011 when he joined the College of Engineering (CET), Trivandrum, to pursue engineering. Previously active in the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) at his parish, he struggled with a sense of disconnect after transitioning to college life in a new city. Seeking a Catholic community in Trivandrum, he attended a prayer meeting on campus at a friend’s invitation. It was organized by the CET chapter of Jesus Youth, and the weekly gatherings deeply impacted him. Unlike his earlier experiences with youth groups that focused on social work, these meetings emphasized prayer, spiritual healing and personal growth. Witnessing senior students kneeling in prayer for their college, teachers and campus challenges inspired Bince profoundly, especially given CET’s vibrant political environment.
A transformative moment came during an annual retreat in 2011 when Bince experienced a profound encounter with God during inner healing adoration. This led him to commit to daily prayer, the Holy Eucharist and the spiritual pillars of Jesus Youth. By his final year, he was coordinating the CET chapter. After moving to Karnataka for work, Bince joined the state’s Jesus Youth chapter, contributing to various college ministry teams. From 2019 to 2022, he served on the Jesus Youth National Campus Team, focusing on nurturing young people’s spiritual growth and addressing issues like chastity and morality. These experiences shaped his vision to guide youth across India on their faith journey.
Project Lily: A Chastity Initiative
Bince’s most notable contribution to Catholic youth ministry is Project Lily, a chastity initiative aimed at inspiring young people to embrace purity and holiness. Motivated by his own struggles with chastity during college, Bince found clarity through Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, which deepened his understanding of human sexuality as part of God’s design. This insight transformed his perspective and fueled his desire to help others overcome similar challenges by promoting a life of chastity and purity.
Launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, Project Lily emphasizes prevention over remedy, focusing on the dignity of the human person and the sacredness of sexuality. By spreading the message of chastity, Bince hopes to counter issues like pornography and abortion. The initiative has reached thousands of young Catholics through exhibitions, webinars and sessions, and Bince’s team is developing a 90-day program to deepen participants’ understanding and practice of chastity.
Catholic Reads: Making Catholic Literature Accessible
Catholic Reads, founded by Bince, is a publication house dedicated to making Catholic books affordable and accessible in India. Inspired by his college struggles to afford imported Catholic books, Bince sought to bridge the gap by republishing top-rated titles, especially from the U.S., at reasonable prices. A key achievement of Catholic Reads is its partnership with Jason Evert’s Chastity Project, enabling the republishing of books addressing sexuality, chastity and purity, making these valuable resources widely available to Indian readers.
Balancing Professional, Personal, and Ministry Life
Despite his busy schedule, Bince has successfully balanced his personal, professional, and ministry life through discipline, which he gained from participating in Exodus 90, a 90-day program focused on prayer, asceticism, and community. This experience taught him time management and prioritization. Bince maintains this balance by following a routine of prayer, attending Mass, and making time for personal reflection and growth, allowing him to stay focused on his ministry and avoid distractions.
Looking Ahead
Bince is excited about upcoming exhibitions and events for Project Lily, while also working on completing its 90-day program. He plans to expand Catholic Reads by introducing more books to the Indian market, driven by his passion to bring Catholic wisdom to the next generation. Through his professional career, ministry, and entrepreneurial efforts, Bince exemplifies faith, dedication, and service, inspiring others to live a life that honors God and makes a meaningful impact on the world.
