Penang, Malaysia 29 Nov 2025: The Indian delegation from the CCBI is making a strong and visible impact at the FABC Congress on the Great Pilgrimage of Hope, now underway at the Light Hotel in Penang, Malaysia. Their presence is marked by steady participation, lively engagement, and a deep sense of mission.
India’s voice stands out in the Congress. Delegates highlight the country’s cultural richness, the resilience of its communities, and the Church’s commitment to dialogue and service. Many bishops and pastoral leaders from across Asia have praised the Indian team for its openness, warmth, and readiness to collaborate.
The CCBI delegation has also played a key role as resource persons. Ms. Jeremai Krong from Arunachal Pradesh, Mr. Justin P. J. from Mysore, and Sr. Lidwin Fernandes, UFS, Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Women, offered valuable inputs. Bishop George Palliparambil of Miao, Archbishop Thomas Menamparambil, Archbishop Emeritus of Guwahati, Archbishop Felix Machado, Bishop Emeritus of Vasai, and Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, Archbishop of Goa and Daman, addressed various sessions and guided discussions with their experience and insight.
Among the 76 CCBI delegates, India sent a broad mix of voices: 36 laypeople, including 26 women; 15 young participants; 9 religious sisters; 14 priests; and 17 bishops.
Apart from the CCBI delegation, there are 16 Syro-Malabar delegates led by Major Archbishop Raphael Thattil and Archbishop Andrews Thazhath of Thrissur.
The overall Congress has drawn 104 bishops, 155 priests, 74 religious sisters, 8 deacons, and 422 lay leaders from across Asia. With 76 participants, India stands as the largest national delegation, underlining its growing leadership in shaping the Church’s journey of hope in the region.
