Diocese of Agartala to Celebrate Pearl Jubilee with Bishop Lumen Monteiro’s Episcopal Milestone

Agartala, Tripura, May 24, 2026: The Diocese of Agartala in the northeastern Indian state of Tripura is preparing to celebrate a historic double milestone in 2026 as it marks the Pearl Jubilee of the Diocese along with the 30th anniversary of the Episcopal Conseation of Bishop Lumen Monteiro.

The twin celebrations will commemorate three decades of the Diocese’s missionary journey, pastoral outreach and service to the people of Tripura since its establishment in 1996.

Over the past 30 years, the Diocese has steadily expanded its presence across the region through evangelisation, educational institutions, social development initiatives and pastoral ministries. From humble beginnings, the local Church has grown into a vibrant faith community serving people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.

Church leaders noted that the Jubilee celebrations would be a moment of thanksgiving for the growth of the Diocese and for the contributions of missionaries, clergy, religious and lay faithful who helped strengthen the Church’s mission in the region.

Since his episcopal consecration in 1996, Bishop Monteiro has guided the Diocese through significant phases of development and pastoral expansion. His ministry has focused on faith formation, youth empowerment, education, social upliftment and fostering interreligious harmony in the multi-cultural state of Tripura.

Under his leadership, the Diocese witnessed growth in parishes, mission centres and institutions dedicated to education, healthcare and rural development. Various programmes promoting women’s empowerment, social welfare and humanitarian outreach have also become integral to the Diocese’s mission.

As part of the Pearl Jubilee celebrations, the Diocese has planned a series of spiritual and cultural events, including Eucharistic Adoration, felicitation programmes, cultural performances and a solemn concelebrated Eucharistic celebration. Fellowship gatherings and commemorative programmes are also expected to bring together clergy, religious and faithful from across the Diocese.

Organisers described the Jubilee not merely as a celebration of achievements but as an occasion for spiritual renewal and renewed commitment to the mission of Christ.

The celebrations are expected to highlight the Diocese’s continuing dedication to evangelisation, service and building communities rooted in faith, compassion and harmony.
